TECHNIQUES
Various techniques used to create Agapé Artisan Jewelry include traditional metalsmithing, the ancient art of wire wrapping and hand knotting. Unlike casted jewelry which is convenient for mass production, each piece of Agapé Artisan Jewelry is hand fabricated from beginning to end. Metalwork is hand forged in 14k gold fill, fine and sterling silver, and involves meticulous forming, cutting, shaping, sanding, hammering and soldering. Wire wrapping with small beads requires patience and attention to detail. Of course, all designs must take into consideration durability and wearability, along with aesthetics.
Creating new and original gemstone designs is an ever-evolving labor of love, a process of trial and error.
SOURCING MATERIALS
All gemstones and pearls are sourced from only renowned and trusted suppliers worldwide to ensure high quality, vibrant color, exceptional clarity and precise cut. The majority of material used in Agapé jewelry are hand selected during the annual Tucson Gem & Mineral Show - said to be the largest, oldest and most prestigious gem and mineral show in the world.
GEMSTONE SELECTION
Gemstones are carefully selected for color, shape, cut and proportion. Inherent variances in natural stones make each piece an original work of art. Highest quality AAA hydro quartz, made by a process of hydrothermal transport, is also used for their amazing color and perfect clarity. All materials are described in each listing.
When choosing material for a particular design, each stone is carefully selected and thoughtfully arranged to create an original and timeless final product.
WHAT IS 14K GOLD FILLED?
14K gold-fill is the best affordable alternative to solid gold, which is why it is used in Agápē Artisan Jewelry. “Gold-filled” is a USA industry standard that legally requires 1/20th, or 5% pure gold by weight. Gold filled is an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded over a core of high quality jeweler’s brass. There is no nickel in gold filled jewelry, so anyone can wear it without worries of allergic reaction. Gold filled has 100% more gold and much more valuable than gold plating. It is significantly more tarnish resistant than gold plating and does not flake off, rub off or turn colors.
